Velarde Rummage Sale

A few weeks ago we had some fun at a rummage sale hosted by the church for the Velarde family. The Velardes will be moving to Italy as missionaries this fall, and it was a blessing to be a part of what God has called them to do. We had a great time selling all the items that were donated for this event. It took me back to the days of Grandpa Susano, and my Dad going to all the yard sales and flea markets. Nicole says that we grew up to be professional dumpster divers (10 for form, 9.5 for entry, 9.9 for choice selection). Unfortunately she was right, as some of my earliest memories are of having my older brother, John, convince his younger and more naive siblings go through Salvation Army collection boxes outside the Safeway supermarket parking lot. Ahh, those were the days. Ha ha.
The weather was great, it had been raining the day before, and some dark grey clouds were out early that morning, but in His greatness, the Lord held back the rain and blessed us with a warm sunny day. Even more awesome was how many people came out to help, cook burgers, buy things, and overall have fun. There were so many Okinawans that came, which was amazing, since we had only advertised the day before, and put out signs that morning alongside the street.
Of course Nicole, the kids, and I came back with some items. The kids bought a V-smile game, some toys, and Nicole bought some clothes, and I bought some camping gear. What a Blessing. Thank you Lord for an awesome time of fun, service, and fellowship with all the other families that were there.
